The spice rack in the average US kitchen will find one name synonymous with spices, marinades and liquid flavorings – McCormick and Company, Inc.

Founded in 1889, McCormick is the largest manufacturer of spices in the United States. Products are sold under the McCormick® trade name in the East, Schilling® labels in the West, and the Club House® brand in Canada. McCormick employs over 9,000 people with annual sales of $1.7 billion.

McCormick’s Hunt Valley, Maryland processing plant was recently revamped and modernized. As part of its quality assurance program, Beach’s compressed air filters were specified throughout, ranging from the Model F-T20C through the F-1200W “Super Beach” filter.

Mark Henry, sales engineer for PneuForce, working with Bill McIntire and Roy Kucharczyk, planning and maintenance at the Sparks plant, specified Beach filters for each production line, dry mixing area, and McCormick’s new robot-operated packaging area. In fact, almost the entire Beach product line is used as part of the quality assurance program.

The production lines utilize Beach’s Model F-T20C Polyclear II® filters with auto drains to:

  • blow off excessive ingredients
  • keep the adhesive dry for the jar/container seals
  • supply air to the video jet machines for date codes and printed identification

Beach Model F-T60C with auto drains were specified for the dry mixing area which supplies ingredients for seasoning blends marketed by McCormick. Here, clean, dry, compressed air is required for blow down and pressurization of vats that supply the dry mix.

The new packaging area makes extensive use of robotics and automatic packaging. The large Beach Model F-300C, F-600C and the Model F-1200W “Super Beach” filters are utilized in this new modernized.

The Hunt Valley plant is indicative of McCormick’s dedication to cleanliness, safety, and efficiency. As McCormick continues to increase its capacity, Beach will be depended upon for point-of-use compressed air filtration.
